Why subsidise churches?

So i woke up this morning thinking about this. Why don't the American churches pay taxes? It's a form of subsidy and subsidies are usually given to those industries that keep the corporate state empire rolling. It doesn't make much sense to subsidise churches as they don't really produce anything.

Take for example the oil industry that is heavily subsidised by the taxpayers or all sorts of high tech stuff like computers, robots and other things that was developed by pentagon and then handed over to the private industry once it's good enough to be commercialised. After the crisis in 2008 other industries were also more heavily supported by government. Like the car industry and the financial sector.

All these industries have something in common. They are necessary to keep the wheels of the machine running. The pursuit of world domination relies on them to destroy economies or bomb countries that don't want to dance to the tune of the corporate state empire. Some of the technology is also designed to keep it's own population in check. Like the TV that relentlessly spews propaganda and turn people into fat docile uneducated sheep with reality shows like Jersey Shore. It also tells us what products to buy, so the super rich can get even richer. Tv is a great invention for paralysing the population and robbing them blind. That might not have been the intention by the inventors and I know that technology is neutral. It can be used for any purpose but the effect of the brainwashing is very real. Just think about Fox News. Need I say more? It keeps people uneducated or educated in a way that serves the powerful and it's very easy to let yourself slip into this trancelike mindnumb state when you're watching tv. That's the main reason that I almost never do.

You could argue that to some extent  the same is true about churches and other places of worship. The evangelicals, who are the dominating part of the religious public in the US, seem to have an anti science stance and shun intellectuals and free thinking. Now at first glance this would seem to be counterproductive to a modern society. I mean, if you want your society to prosper and grow, you would like to have at least a fair amount of smart people to invent new technology and ways of thinking. A public with an anti science stance would prevent that. Now you might call me desillusioned, but I doubt that prosperity (for anyone but the 1%) is the purpose of the US system. To me it seems more likely that the empire is interested in keeping wages low and profit high and that is a hard thing to do if you have a free thinking, smart and politically observant public. This would at least in my opnion give some sort of explanation to why the government does not tax the churches. They serve a purpose much like the TV of keeping people ignorant of the way they are being robbed by their so called democratically elected representatives and their corporate overlords.

Opinions?

  1. Entirely true. The church is just another wing of the conservative propaganda machine. "Gays are bad, Jesus died for your sins, Obama is the antichrist, vote for Santorum. Amen."

    Abhorrent.

  2. Oh yea... I came across some jesus fanatic picture today... Something about begging jesus to take care of something (like praying ever accomplished anything). It made me think that religion also teaches people convenient things like submissivenes and praying about stuff instead of actually going out on the streets and organise against the oppressors.
